Determinate Sentencing in California

In the late 1970s, California Criminal Courts abandoned an inconsistent sentencing method known as “indeterminate sentencing” and put in place a standard known as determinate sentencing or triad sentencing.

This system, as it currently stands, creates three (3) terms of imprisonment for a felony conviction: a low, a mid and a high.
